ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Physiological Society of Nigeria was founded on April 28, 1978, at the College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, at a meeting convened by one of Nigeria's foremost physiologists, Prof. Diete-Koki. At that meeting, Prof. Felix Oladejo Dosekun of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, was unanimously elected the society's first president. With a membership of just 18 at its inception in 1978, the Society has grown into one of Africa's most active physiological societies.

The aim of the society is to promote and advance physiological knowledge and its utilisation. PSN is affiliated with the African Association of Physiological Sciences (AAPS) and the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS).

In addition,PSN was established:

  • To serve as a medium for the exchange of ideas and information between physiologists in Nigeria.
  • To facilitate links with other physiological societies within and outside Africa.
  • To advance knowledge in the scientific disciplines relating to physiology by supporting and providing suitable mechanisms for training programs in physiology in Nigeria.
  • To relate and advise relevant government agencies on best practices in physiology education in terms of teaching and research.
